Cor pulmonale (kor-pull-mun-al-ee) is a state of the right lower chamber (ventricle) of the heart. This is a secondary disorder caused by pulmonary hypertension (high blood pressure in the pulmonary artery). This disorder isn't caused by heart disease; it is a lung condition that affects the right ventricle of the heart. Cor pulmonale shouldn't be confused with a congenital heart condition, ventricular septal defect. This is a disease that causes right ventricular enlargement due to left ventricular failure. Cor pulmonale, likewise known as right ventricle heart failure, is a chronic disorder related to pulmonary hypertension that can finally lead to the martyrdom of an individual.
